House Internet

Our house internet and WiFi system works with the Spectrum Modem/Router, our own VPN Router, and a PiHole connected to the Spectrum Modem/Router.

If any of these systems are down then our internet will be down.

How Internet Works

Internet comes into the Spectrum Modem/Router this Internet is called: Mustang 2. This Internet is then sent to the Pi Hole.

The Pi Hole takes The Internet and takes the ads out and sends them to The Void for eternal punishment

The Good Internet then gets pushed on to our VPN Router.

The VPN hides any device that is connected to it from prying eyes (gov't, hackers, your mom, etc.). This connection is called: Mustang

It is important to use the Mustang connection to ensure you are connected to the VPN and the Pi Hole

Troubleshooting

Most issues are fixed with a proper power cycle in order of how the internet comes in (Spectrum Modem/Router, Pi Hole, VPN Router)

  1. Unplug the Spectrum Modem, Pi Hole and VPN router from wall power (use plug that goes into the wall for the Pi Hole it is easiest)
  2. Plug in the Sepctrum Modem
  3. Wait for the Modem's lights to stop blinking (~90 seconds)
  4. Plug in the Pi Hole
  5. Wait for the blinking lights to go solid (~2 minutes)
  6. Plug in the VPN Router

If the internet is still down, it may be the VPN that is causing issues and you will need to change it

  1. Use a computer that is connected via Ethernet or WiFI to Mustang
  2. In a browser go to https://expressvpnrouter.com
  3. P/W is the same as the Mustang P/W
  4. Change the location of the VPN to somewhere else
